Overview

Truncate is a blocklist powered by GBUdb (Good, Bad, Ugly database), the reputation engine behind ARM Research Labs' Message Sniffer anti-spam platform. Unlike most blacklists that rely on spamtraps, abuse reports, or manual submissions, Truncate is entirely algorithmic. It calculates IP reputation based on pattern analysis across the Message Sniffer network — a distributed system of mail servers that collectively analyze message characteristics and sending behavior.

The key distinction of Truncate is that there is no manual addition or removal process. No human puts your IP on the list, and no human takes it off. The system continuously recalculates reputation scores, and IPs that fall below the threshold are automatically listed. When the negative behavior stops, the score recovers and the listing clears — typically within a few days.

This fully automated approach has advantages and drawbacks. On the positive side, there is no bureaucracy, no removal forms, and no fees. On the negative side, there is nothing you can do to accelerate removal other than fixing the underlying problem. You cannot appeal, explain, or request an exception.

Truncate's real-world impact on email delivery is limited. Its primary users are mail servers running Message Sniffer, which is a capable but niche anti-spam product. Major mailbox providers do not reference Truncate directly. However, like other low-impact lists, a Truncate listing serves as a useful early warning that your IP's sending behavior has deviated from healthy patterns. If Truncate flags you, investigate — even if your delivery to Gmail and Microsoft seems fine.
